Description

Captured ship: Catharina (master Oloff Nielson).

History: a Danish ship, bound from Hamburg to Algiers or to Livorno if the crew object to Algiers (but supected to be for Marseilles), laden with guns, gunpowder, iron, deals etc; taken on by the privateer Eagle (John Bazely or Beasley commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 10-CP 15]: standing interrogatories, three examinations about words spoken by Nielson in his lodgings ashore in Dover, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 16-CP 17]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 18-CP 19]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 20, CP 20A-CP 20L]: attestation and 10 bills of lading and other papers sent by post from Hamburg, showing the guns and ammunition were consigned from Hamburg to Algiers, and court wrapper;
  • [CP 21-CP 22]; attestation as to papers, abstract and translation of the 44 ship's papers [which were restored];
  • [CP 23]: translation of the charterparty;
  • [CP 24]: affidavit as to hidden nature of papers;
  • [CP 25]: allegation;
  • [CP 26-CP 28]: attestation by the master and two claims for expenses;
  • [CP 29]: allegation;
  • [CP 30-CP 31]: receipts for delivery of the ship's books and papers from the Registry, March and April 1745.
