Description

Captured ship: Brigitta Catherina otherwise Brigitta Catrina (master Joen Andersen otherwise Jon Andersen Naskil).

History: a Danish merchant ship (with crew of 7 Norwegian men) bound from Arendal to St Martin, laden with balks, timber and deals; taken on 25 April/6 May 1748 off Gravelines by HMS Winchelsea (Henry Dyve commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations taken at Deal, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: claim;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 14 ship's papers [of which 9 were restored].

Ship's papers, now numbered SP 1-SP 3, SP 5 and SP 10.

[Decision: cargo condemned, ship restored as neutral 28 June 1748]
