Description

Captured ship: Le Bien Pris of St Malo (master François Quesnel).

History: a French merchant ship (80 tons, 10 men) bound from Cape Breton to La Rochelle, laden with fish, coffee, and oil; taken on 14/25 December 1744 in latitude 46°by the privateer Southwell (John Purnell commanding), and brought into Bristol.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7 -CP 8]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 3 ship's papers.

Ship's papers, now numbered SP 1-SP 3.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 21 January 1745]
