Captured ship: La Bellone of Nantes (master Claude Lary).
History: a French privateer (400 tons, 34 mounted guns, 20 swivel guns, 315 men); taken in fight on 13 February, ten leagues southwest of Scilly, by HMS Edinburgh ([Thomas] Cotes commanding), HMS Eagle (George Bridges Rodney commanding) and HMS Nottingham (Philip Saumarez commanding), and brought into Plymouth.
