Description

Captured ship: Le Basque of Bayonne (master Pierre Souhaignet).

History: French privateer (70 tons, 2 carriage guns, 6 swivel guns, 81 men); taken on 24 May/4 June 1747 in latitude 49°30 by HMS Edinburgh (Justinian Nutt commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: a letter instead of an attestation as to papers (as the Edinburgh is preparing to sail on the next wind), and abstract and translation of the 3 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers, now marked SP A- SP E.
