Description

Captured ship: Le Bon Secours of Noirmoutier (master Jean Michaud).

History: a French merchant ship (30 tons), deserted by the crew, and taken on 15/26 July 1745 with seven others in the River of Bordeaux by the privateer Mary Galley (Samuel Thoume commanding). Two were ransomed for want of prize crew, four were sent off for Guernsey (this ship, Le Pierre Marie of Argenton (master Pierre Collin), La Marie Catherine of Conquet (master Yves Le Gall), and St Anne of Bordeaux (master François Maurin)); and two others remained with the captor until they too were brought into Guernsey. [Details taken from the joint examinations at HCA 32/97/19.]

Ship's papers now numbered SP 1- SP 39, including several letters from the master's wife.
