Description

Captured ship: La Bagatelle of Nantes (master Jean Surville but earlier, Louis Nogues).

History: a French East India Company [sic] ship bound from Paimboeuf to Cap François, Saint Domingue, laden with provisions only; taken on 18/29 August 1747 by HMS Vigilant (James Douglas commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1]: standing interrogatories, four examinations, commissioner's affidavit and attestation as to papers [one document];
  • [CP 2]: allegation;
  • [CP 3]: abstract and translation of the 3 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers, now numbered SP 1-SP 3, the mail having been thrown overboard on capture.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 30 September 1747]
