Description

Captured ship: St Antoine of Dunkirk (master Jean Baptiste Fontaine).

History: a French privateer (15 tons, 28 men, 2 carriage guns and 10 swivel guns), bound on a cruise; taken on 15 May 1745 about 5 leagues south of Flamborough Head by HMS Jamaica sloop (Robert Jefferies commanding) and brought into Bridlington.

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: standing interrogatories, three examinations taken at Hull [one document], commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 4]: allegation;
  • [CP 5-CP 7]: 2 attestations, and translation of the 2 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers: SP 1-SP 2, privateer's commission and muster roll.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 18 June 1745]
