Description

Captured ship: Anna Galley (master Simon Smit).

History: a Dutch merchant ship, bound from Alicante to Amsterdam, laden with brandy, soap, almonds, aniseed and wine; taken on 28 September / 9 October 1747 (on suspicion of having French property on board) by the privateer Prince of Wales (John Beal commanding), and brought into Guernsey.

  • [CP 1]: 3 examinations, commissioners' affidavit [one document];
  • [CP 2-CP 3]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 4]: protest against the captor's conduct;
  • [CP 5]: allegation;
  • [CP 6-CP 8]; attestation, abstract and translation of the [Dutch] ship's papers, and abatract and translation of the Spanish and Italian ship's papers; [all 18 ship's papers apear to have been restored].
