Description

Captured ship: St Anna of Hamburg (master Abraham Pettersen or Pieterson).

History: a Hamburg ship, bound from Bordeaux to Hamburg, laden with wine, brandy, sugar, coffee, oil of turpentine, cork, paper, indigo and other goods; taken on 31 July / 11 August 1747 by the privateer George (William Freebairn commanding) and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 8-CP 9]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 10]: allegation;
  • [CP 11-CP 15]: attestations and translations from Hamburg;
  • [CP 16]: schedules of goods proved neutral to be restored, and of goods condemned.
  • [CP 17]: attestation as to papers;
  • [CP 18]: abstract and translation of Dutch and High German ship's papers and books numbered 1-52 (bills of lading), and 78-84, 86-103, 105-106, 108-120;
  • [CP 19]: abstract and translation of French ship's papers numbered 53-77, 85, 104, and 107 [originally 120 papers total].

Ship's Papers: originally 120 ship's papers, which were all restored except 9 papers:- SP 10, SP 46, SP 77, SP 78, SP 79, SP 84, SP 90, SP 107 and SP 118.

[Decision: ship and part [most] of the cargo restored as neutral, rest of the cargo condemned as prize, 3 November 1747]
