Description

Captured ship: St Anne of Nantes (master Samsin Berrouette or Sancin Berouette).

History: a French merchant ship (250 tons, 30 men) bound from Martinique to Nantes, laden with sugar, coffee, cocoa and cotton; taken on 10/21 January 1745 about 35 leagues from Belle Isle by HMS Monmouth (Henry Harrison commanding) and brought into Portsmouth.

  • [CP 1]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, and commissioner's affidavit [one document];
  • [CP 2]: allegation;
  • [CP 3-CP 4]: attestation, and abstract and translation of the 26 ship's papers.

Ship's papers:

  • 4 papers marked A-D (and used in the examinations);
  • 22 papers numbered 1-22.
