Captured ship: L'Ambuscade of Le Havre (Lieutenant Richard Tabary commanding).
History: a French 'man of war' [naval ship or privateer?] (a frigate, 500 tons, 38 carriage guns, 4 swivel guns, 363 men), taken in fight on 17/28 April 1746 in latitude 47° 30' N, 130 leagues west of Ushant, at the 1st Battle of Cape Finisterre by HMS Defiance (Henry Powlett or Paulet commanding), HMS Salisbury, and HMS Ruby (Robert Wellard commanding), and brought into Plymouth [bought into the Navy as HMS Ambuscade].
