Description

Captured ship: L'Ambition of St Malo (master Louis des Bois).

History: a French 'row boat' privateer, formerly the Swallow; taken on 3/14 June 1746 by HMS Dispatch (Henry Barnesley commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

  • [CP 1]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit [one document];
  • [CP 2]: allegation;
  • [CP 3]: abstract and translation of the 2 ship's papers.
Ship's papers:
  • A: privateer's commission;
  • B: muster roll.
