Description

Captured ship: L'Alerte of Dieppe (master Louis Philippe Clouet Dubuisson).

History: a French privateer; taken on 14 June 1746 off the Isle of Wight by HMS Saltash (John Pittman commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

Documents:-

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7- CP 8]: attestation, and abstract and translation of the two ship's papers.

Ship's papers:

  • A: privateer's commission;
  • B: muster roll.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 5 August 1746]
