Captured ship: L'Atlas of La Rochelle (master Pierre Robert), formerly called (i) the Mercury (ii) L'Ercule (iii) Le Rodoc.
History: a French merchant ship with a letter of marque (320 tons, 20 carriage guns, 8 swivel guns, 42 men), bound from Saint Domingue to La Rochelle, laden with coffee, sugar and indigo; taken in fight on 23 June/4 July 1747 10 leagues southwest of Ushant by HMS Advice (Richard Haddock commanding) and brought first into Plymouth, and then into London.
