Description

Captured ship: L'Arbre d'Orange otherwise De Oranje Boom (master Douwe Markus).

History: a Dutch merchant ship bound from La Rochelle to Boulogne laden with brandy, sugar and treacle; taken on 16/27 August 1746 off Boulogne by the privateer Carlisle (William Owens commanding).

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6 ]: claim;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8]: bill of claimants' legal expenses;
  • [CP 9-CP 11]: attestation, translation of the French ship's papers; abstract and translation of the 20 French and Dutch papers [most of these papers were restored].

Ship's papers: only 6 papers are here - SP 1, SP 10, SP 12, SP 13, SP 14 and SP 15, of which SP 12-SP 15 are letters to the master.
