Description

Captured goods: L'Aimable Rose (master Vincent Labrye).

History: a French merchant ship bound from Nantes to San Sebastian, laden with Havana snuff; taken on 6 July 1743 about 6 leagues west of San Sebastian by HMS Augusta and HMS Ferret, and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 10]: standing interrogatories, additional interrogatory asking about rules on the importation of snuff into Spain, six examinations, commissioners' affidavit, wrapper;
  • [CP 11]: allegation for the cargo of 38,000 lbs of Havana snuff;
  • [CP 12]: translation of the 1 ship's paper.

Ship's Papers: SP 1, a written acknowledgement by the master of full compensation paid by captors for damage done in the search.

[Decision: [the cargo] condemned as prize, 24 October 1743]
