Captured ship: L'Aimable Maria (master naval lieutenant Gilberto Wale).
History: a Spanish privateer under the command of the Count D'Esneval, vice-admiral of the King of Denmark, with Spanish royal authority to explore Abyssinia and other dominions of Prester John and convert the inhabitants to the Catholic faith, which having just taken three English vessels at anchor at the [Portuguese] Island of May [Maio] and converted one (the Mary of Glasgow) into a privateer, had broken the laws of neutraility; taken on 26 May 1744 by the outbound East Indies squadron under Admiral Barnett, comprising HMS Medway (Edward Preston commanding), HMS Preston (Earl of Northesk commanding), HMS Deptford (John Phillipson commanding) and HMS Dolphin (John Moore commanding) and brought into Praia on the island of Santiago (in the Cape Verde Islands).
