Captured ship: St Ambrose or St Ambrosio (master Francisco Manoel de Lima).
History: a Portuguese merchant ship [150 tons, 16 men] bound from Lisbon to Madeira and the Canary Island, thence to London or Amsterdam, coming into Dover in distress, and there seized on 5 October 1740 by HM Customs on suspicion of carrying Spanish goods (130 pipes of Canary wine, unloaded because of damage to the ship).
