Description

Captured ship: St Alexandre or St Alexander of St Jean de Luz (master Michel Garamendy or Laremaidy).

History: a French merchant ship (220 tons, 52 men) sailing from Newfoundland to St Jean de Luz, laden with oil and whalebone; taken on 26 August 1744 by the Mediterranean privateer (John or Edmund Stott commander) and brought into Bristol.

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: standing interrogatories, three examinations and commisioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 4]: attestation as to absence of ship's papers, which were taken on board the captor and are therefore still at sea;
  • [CP 5]: allegation.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 27 September 1744]
