Captured ship: Alexandre of Nantes (master Rene Miguel).
History: a French merchant ship with a letter of marque (400 tons, 20 guns, 76 men) bound from Dunkirk to Cap François, Saint Domingue, laden with provisions, bricks, linen, and bale and other goods; taken between Ostend and Nieuwpoort 2 July 1744 by HMS Torrington (Richard Edwards commanding), HMS Harwich (Philip Cartwright commanding) and HMS Success (Henry Stewart commanding) and brought into Dover.
