Description

Captured ship: St Andreas otherwise St Andries (master Caspar Sellenten or Sellentyn or Sellentein) of Stettin.

History: a Prussian merchant ship, bound from Seudres to Ostend, laden with salt; taken on 10/21 April 1748 by the privateer St Michael (George Cunningham commanding), and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commisioners' affidavit, attestation;
  • [CP 7]: claim;
  • [CP 8]: translations of the ship's Dutch, Swedish and German papers;
  • [CP 9]: abstract of the ship's French papers.

Ship's papers: papers numbered SP 1-SP 7, and SP 13 only: 8-12 and 14-15 were restored.

[Decision: ship restored as neutral, cargo condemned as prize, 20 May 1748]
