Description

Captured ship: L'Astré (master Pierre Darty).

History: a French vessel (50 tons, 4 man, 1 boy) bound from Le Croisic to Santander, laden with salt and cod roes; taken on 14/25 April 1746, off Santander by the privateer Saltash (George Powell commanding), and brought into Falmouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1]: attestation by Christopher Huddy, mariner of Stepney and part-owner of the Saltash, that the prize, over 30 years old and in poor condition, is not worth £40;
  • [CP 2]: release of any interest by Thomas Winter, foremastman in the Saltash;
  • [CP 3-CP 4]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 9 ship's papers;
  • [CP 5]: allegation.

Ship's Papers: numbered SP 1- SP 9.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 3 June 1746]
