Folio(s) 388-391. Copy of a letter to Patrick Colquhoun [magistrate of the Public Office, Queen Square, Westminster] from William Hale of Wood Street, Spitalfields, Middlesex, silk manufacturer and Overseer of the Poor for the parish of Christ Church, alerting him to the level of distress in that parish, even amongst those in employment, such is the price of bread. Hale describes the overcrowding of the parish workhouse and its infirmary and the extent of the parish’s growing debt to tradesmen despite all attempts at economy. He states that a similar melancholy situation prevails in neighbouring Bethnal Green and Mile End New Town and asks Colquhoun to bring it to the notice of Ministers.
