One3One Solutions was launched in May 2012 by the Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke, with a mission to increase the productive, commercial work done by prisoners. It was rebranded from the old Prison Industries Unit, and named after the number of prisons in the UK estate.
It was intended that One3One Solutions would win and manage contracts for work for prisoners with both the public and private sectors. As well as expanding the scope for prisoners to rehabilitate, increasing prison work would provide an opportunity to generate reparation and rehabilitation funds.
