Folio(s) 187-188. Letter from W E Goodacre [William E Goodacre], Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. He encloses for approval the appointment form for Elizabeth Nicholson as workhouse matron. The form shows Nicholson, late of Summerfield, near Bolton, [Lancashire], had been a house keeper and cook for a private family there. The salary to be £25 per annum plus rations.
The post became vacant after the death of the previous matron.
Annotated: the Board sanctioned the appointment of the master [James Nicholson] and sanction his sister as matron.
