Description

Prisoner name(s): Thomas Fletcher.

Prisoner occupation: Foreman and Master Mast Maker, Carpenter.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey December Sessions 1821.

Crime: Larceny - stealing a quantity of timber from the River Thames.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Annotated (Outcome): Free pardon prepared October 1825.

Petitioner(s): Prisoner and Paul Chapman.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Prisoner is 'a respectable character for industry and integrity'; has a wife and family; good conduct in gaol and has worked as a carpenter; he has diseased and afflicted legs; he has served nearly four years of his sentence.

Other papers: A letter from the convict to Admiral Sir Robert Morson [Moorson] asking him to write to the Home Secretary.

Robert Moorson forwarding the letter but pleading ignorance of the case.

A certificate signed by Jonathan Wontner, Keeper of Newgate Gaol certifying Fletcher's good behaviour in gaol.
