Description

Prisoner name(s): James Byford.

Prisoner occupation: Ex-marine.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey February Sessions 1822.

Crime: Robbing his employers Brooke Webb and Co, of 24s.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Annotated (Outcome): 'Let him be discharged'.

Petitioner(s): Prisoner , undersigned by Brooke Webb and Co, his employers.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Previous good character; repents of his crime; satisfactory conduct as a servant in the Gaol; is now ill in the prison infirmary.

Other papers: A certificate signed by H Cotton, Ordinary for John Wontner, Keeper of Newgate as to convict's good conduct.

Letter from John Wontner about the case of Nicholas Clarke and James Byford who nearly died.
