Description

Prisoner name(s): William Dutton.

Prisoner occupation: Footman.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey Sessions September 1821.

Crime: Larceny - stealing 3 pairs of stockings, 2 pairs gloves and other articles, the property of Thomas Edward Mitchell Turton.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil; 8 October 1821.

Petitioner(s): 11 people of Middlesex.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Convict is a young man unused to the ways of London; he had stopped Turton being burgled on 3 occasions; he has respectable connections; he had a good reference from Captain Lawson of Whetstone; good, honest and industrious character hitherto; he refused to plead guilty as he is convinced of his innocence.
