Description

Recommendation for the mitigation of sentence for selected prisoners on board/in: Ganymede Hulk at Chatham.

Names and details of prisoners:

Jonathan Drinkwater: aged 37 convicted at Hereford on 11 August 1819 of having in his possession forged notes. Initial Sentence: 14 years' transportation; Richard Spencer Ellins: aged 25 convicted at Worcester on 24 July 1819 of felony. Initial sentence: transportation for life.

Gaoler's name: George Lloyd, Captain of the Ganymede Hulk.

Grounds for clemency (Recommendation Details): They are 'proper objects to be recommended to the Royal Mercy for mitigation of sentence'.

Annotated (Recommendation Details): Drinkwater's sentence to be mitigated to seven years; Ellin's sentence to be mitigated to 14 years.
