Description

Prisoner name(s): William Butcher.

Recommendation for the mitigation of sentence for selected prisoners on board/in: On board the Bellerophon hulk.

Names and details of prisoners:

William Butcher: aged 35, convicted at Maidstone, Kent on 17 March 1817 of felony. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation.

Gaoler's name: S Owen.

Grounds for clemency (Recommendation Details): He has conducted himself very properly on board the hulk.

Annotated (Recommendation Details): His name was omitted from the quarterly recommendation list.

Other papers: Letter from S Owen explaining how Butcher's spine was injured and Mr Robertson was not able to fill up the form for the lunatic dated 27 May 1821.
