Prisoner name(s): John Brown.

Prisoner age: 42.

Prisoner occupation: Dealer and chapman.

Court and date of trial: Leeds Borough Sessions October 1830.

Crime: Receiving stolen cloth.

Initial sentence: 14 years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Character bad. Has been a general receiver of stolen goods.'

Annotated (Outcome): 'Abroad of course.'

Petitioner(s): Mary Brown (prisoner's wife) of Leeds, Yorkshire.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner purchased a quantity of cloth not knowing it was stolen; petitioner is greatly distressed and has 2 small children; the prisoner has never before been found guilty of an offence; hi witnesses arrived too late to be called at the trial; in the event of mercy, the prisoner will continue to earn his trade in an honest manner.
