Description

Prisoner name(s): George Boddy.

Court and date of trial: Yorkshire Quarter Sessions held at Beverley April 1830.

Crime: Felony.

Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment.

Annotated (Outcome): Remission prepared 30 October 1830.

Petitioner(s): Two petitions from George Boddy (prisoner).

25 Merchants and other inhabitants of Kingston upon Hull, [Yorkshire] including John Bankworth and William Spaldin (prosecutors).

Richard Casson a Surgeon of Hull, [Yorkshire].

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner's previous good character; no previous offence; the prisoner has a wife and five children who are entirely dependent on him for support; his good conduct during his confinement; he has heart disease; he may die if not liberated before winter; respectable people support his petition; has already been confined for five months and this punishment will have the desired effect upon his future conduct.
