Description

Prisoner name(s): Marie Joseph Francois Beasse.

Court and date of trial: Guernsey Crown Court 16 June 1830.

Crime: Murder (Infanticide). Sarah Elliot (prisoner's servant) gave birth to a male infant at the prisoner's house 10 or 11 June 1830. The prisoner, alone or with an accomplice, killed the infant by forcing an instrument into his throat and anus.

Initial sentence: Under sentence of death at Guernsey.

Annotated (Outcome): Answer to Lieutenant Governor 27 October 1830.

Other papers: An account of the case with depositions.

A letter to/from James Carey declaring Beasse is innocent.

Copy of the Comet Newspaper dated 25 October 1830.
