Description

Prisoner name(s): Samuel Tute.

Prisoner age: 26.

Court and date of trial: Stafford Summer Assizes in July 1830.

Crime: Housebreaking. The prisoner stole 1/6d out of the dwelling house of Samuel Smith of Cheadle Parish, Staffordshire.

Initial sentence: [Death], commuted to transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: 'Bad character. One of the Pottery Gang. Before convicted of felony.'

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): 29 inhabitants of Lane Delph, Stoke upon Trent Parish, Staffordshire.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Petitioners convinced the prisoner is innocent; previous good character.
