Description

Prisoner name(s): Thomas Evans.

Prisoner age: 18.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey September Sessions 1830.

Crime: Stealing butter etc value 4/- from James Savage's shop (prisoner's master) of Bethnal Green Road, [London].

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Not known here.

Annotated (Outcome): Penitentiary.

Petitioner(s): Thomas Evans (prisoner) undersigned by 68 people with 3 character references.

William Evans (father) a ticket-writer for the East India Company undersigned by eight people.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is an honest and industrious youth and has never before committed a crime; the prisoner is earnestly sorry for his crime; trustworthy character; would be reemployed in the event of mercy; respectable and industrious family; the prisoner's conduct during his imprisonment has been exemplary.

Other papers: John Lee a hatter of 119 Wardour Street, Soho, [London] would reemploy him.

Philip Leighe of White Lion Street, Spital Square, [London] testify as to his good character.
