Description

Prisoner name(s): Iveson Clapham and William Bramley.

Prisoner age: Clapham: 27; Bramley 21.

Court and date of trial: York Summer Assizes in 1830.

Crime: Larceny.

Initial sentence: Fourteen years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Bad characters. Have been connected with a gang of thieves in the neighbourhood of Knaresborough.'

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): 6 people including William Bramley's parents of Knaresborough.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Prisoners have been well educated; during the prisoners' confinements, they have conducted themselves with propriety; the prisoners have never before committed offences and were led astray; in the event of mercy, the prisoners will reform and become good members of society.
