Description

Prisoner name(s): Charles Baxter.

Court and date of trial: Norwich City Sessions July 1828.

Crime: Conspiracy.

Initial sentence: Two years imprisonment and a fine of £50.

Annotated (Outcome): 'Letter to the Mayor of Norwich and recommendation to the Treasury 14 October 1830.' 'to be discharged.'

Petitioner(s): Charles Baxter (prisoner) of Ipswich, Suffolk undersigned by 10 magistrates.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner's sentence has expired; the prisoner's long confinement, previous bankruptcy and the distressed state of his family has rendered him totally incapable of paying the £50 fine; one person convicted alongside the prisoner has been discharged after submitting a petition.

Other papers: Letter from J Stewart of the Treasury Chambers confirming that the fine should be remitted.
