Description

Prisoner name(s): William Evans.

Prisoner occupation: Butler.

Court and date of trial: Derby Quarter Sessions October 1826.

Crime: Embezzlement: from his master, Jedediah Strutt.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Bore a good character previous to the commission of this offence.'

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): 26 inhabitants of Belper, Derbyshire including the prosecutor.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner pleaded guilty to the charge; and showed contrition; has already suffered by being imprisoned; previous good conduct; the prisoner's wife is raising her small family without parochial relief.

Other papers: Thomas Ingle enclosing and supporting the petition.
