Description

Prisoner name(s): Robert Walker.

Prisoner occupation: Tin plate worker.

Court and date of trial: Beverley General Quarter Sessions [East Riding of Yorkshire] on 23 April 1827.

Crime: Receiving stolen goods.

Initial sentence: Two years imprisonment and hard labour.

Annotated (Outcome): At the end of one year to be recommended and pardoned if good. Remission prepared 9 April 1828.

Petitioner(s): Robert Walker (prisoner); 77 inhabitants of Kingston upon Hull, [East Riding of Yorkshire].

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is innocent and the true culprit of the crime is Peter Wilson; the prisoner had no idea that the goods were stolen; good character for honesty and integrity; respectable family; wife and three children dependent on him; has already served time in prison; Peter Wilson admitted that he believed the prisoner had no knowledge or suspicion that the goods were stolen.
