Description

Prisoner name(s): Mary Ryan.

Prisoner age: 17.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey February Sessions 1828.

Crime: Highway Robbery of Elizabeth Locker and Elizabeth Frampton.

Initial sentence: [Death] commuted to transportation for life.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): Laurence Ryan and Ann Ryan (prisoner's parents) of 28 Hereford Street, Lisson Grove, Saint Marylebone Parish, Middlesex undersigned by 12 inhabitants of London including the prosecutors.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is the petitioners' only child; the petitioners are honest, sober and industrious people; the prisoner was raise with religious instruction and to be obedient to her superiors by the petitioners; the petitioners were unaware that the prisoner had become acquainted with very bad advisors; the penitentiary will encourage the prisoner to end her days as a good Christian and grateful subject of sovereign; parents deeply distressed; the petitioners hoped that the prisoner would be of comfort in their old age.

Additional Information: The prisoner awaited execution in Newgate Gaol.
