Description

Prisoner name(s): John Robinson.

Prisoner age: 20.

Court and date of trial: Nottingham Lent Assizes 1828.

Crime: Horse Stealing from Henry Blakely.

Initial sentence: [Death] commuted to 14 years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Character and former course of life very fair.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): Two petitions from John Robinson (prisoner's father) of Selston Parish, Nottinghamshire. One petition includes 16 signatures and the other 71 signatures. Both petitions are signed by Henry Blakely (Prosecutor).

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner's youth; respectable persons can vouch for the prisoner's good character; the prisoner's parents are honest and respectable people who have raised their family in the proper manner; the petitioner has acute feelings over the misconduct of his beloved son and begs for mercy on behalf of his distressed wife; the Chief Baron (trial judge) promised to recommend the prisoner for mercy.
