Formerly WO 39, with the addition of representative files of individual claims and registers (WO 148/16, 18-35, 41-44, and 46-48) which were later found in the Colonial Office.

- There is, in the reading rooms at The National Archives, Kew, a key to match former WO 39 references to WO 148 references.

Selection and destruction information (Information about how the record was selected for archiving)
- Records extensively weeded before transfer to the Public Record Office. Originally transferred as WO 39, the series was reviewed in March 1961 under s. 6 of the Public Records Act 1958. This authorised the further destruction of valueless material in the series. The few remaining records were transferred to this series.
