Description

Papers of Lieutenant General Sir Harry G W Smith, who served on the Montevideo Expedition, 1806 to 1807, the Peninsula, 1808 to 1814, America, 1814 to 1815, at Waterloo, 1815, in Jamaica, 1826 to 1828, Cape Colony, 1828 to 1840 and again, as Governor, 1847 to 1852, and as Adjutant General in India, 1840 to 1847. The papers include a diary of the Montevideo Expedition and official and private correspondence mostly from his periods of service in India and Cape Colony.
