Description

This series consists of miscellaneous correspondence and papers of the Judge Advocate General's Office, including several pieces relating to courts martial.

The records in the series include:

  • An index to the trials of officers, 1806 to 1904;
  • Alphabetical indexes to WO 91 and WO 92;
  • A table of death sentences following court martial, 1941-1953;
  • Nominal rolls of courts martial of all ranks of Australian and Canadian forces, 1915-1919;
  • Papers relating to courts martial held in the PoW camp at Changi, Malaya, 1942-1944;
  • Statistics of both Army and Air Force courts martial, 1914-1954;
  • A minute book of the proceedings of the Board of General Officers, 1754 to 1758;
  • A letter book of a board to inquire into statements respecting supplies for the British Army in the Crimea, 1856 and 1857;
  • Salary and establishment returns, 1821-1835;
  • Entry book of returns to the House of Commons and the Treasury as to salaries, pensions, fees, etc, in the Judge Advocate General's Office, and of correspondence 1769-1863 and 1907-1922;
  • A seventeenth century precedent book, including short works by Cotton, Camden, and others;
  • Proclamations and orders under martial law, 1916-1922;
  • A volume of descriptions of court martial proceedings in several European countries and various articles of war.

The series includes material which would otherwise be found amongst the Records of the Board of General Officers and records relating to soldiers' clothing (WO).
