WO 91
1806-1904
This series consists of reports on individual courts martial, 1806-1904, with submissions as to legality laid before the Sovereign by the Judge Advocate General, with copies of letters from the commander-in-chief confirming the sentence as approved by the Sovereign.
Each report gives details of the name, rank and regiment of the accused, the place of trial, the charges, findings and sentence; while the earliest reports give an account of the trial as well.
The reports were submitted by the Judge Advocate General to the Sovereign with his opinion that the findings and sentences were legal. When the submissions were returned, he communicated the results to the commander-in-chief who in turn submitted the cases to the Sovereign with recommendations to confirm, mitigate, remit or commute the sentences awarded by the courts.
