Description

The records in this series consist of the following:

  • Officers' papers, 1871 to 1891: original applications from officers of the British and Indian establishment, with certificates of services annexed, related correspondence, memoranda as to the sums awarded, etc.
  • Registers of service and estimated value of commissions: these set out under each regiment the name of every officer holding a commission on 1 November 1871, the date of his commission, with notes as to his retirement, the sum he received thereon, etc; there is a separate volume for officers on half pay.
  • Awards to officers on retirement, 1886 to 1895.
  • Accounts, 1874 to 1878, relating to officers of the Indian establishment.
  • Minutes, 1887 to 1901.
  • Rough notes of proceedings of the commissioners.
  • Compensation awards, 1871 to 1902.
  • Indian Army compensation, 1758 to 1897.
  • Miscellaneous papers, 1867 to 1908.

The dates attributed to WO 74/1-176 are provisional only.
