Description

These depot description books give physical descriptions of individual soldiers with their dates and places of birth, trades, promotions in the service and how they became non-effective.

The series includes returns of officers' services (with succession lists) of the Gloucester Regiment, 1792 to 1866, which contain particulars of marriages and children.

Note

This series was worked upon as part of the Regiments Indexing Project, for which regimental names have been added as index terms for the pre-1881 period. (May 2004.)
