Description

The Commander in Chief's memoranda of appointments, promotions, and resignations, filed with the original applications for the same, including applications for exchange, and covering letters of commanding officers, Army agents, etc. The papers occasionally include statements of service, certificates of baptism and the like.

The series also includes schedules from Ireland, 1801 to 1859; and schedules and memorials from the Cape of Good Hope, Ceylon, the East Indies, Jamaica and other military commands abroad, 1804 to 1844, containing similar applications and papers.

Arrangement

The general series is arranged chronologically under the dates when the appointments or promotions were published in the London Gazette. The schedules from Ireland and other places form separate sequences at the end of the series.
