Administrative / biographical background

Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is an operating arm of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and is responsible for the built and rural estate of the MoD, from naval bases and airfields to forces housing and military training grounds. It also has responsibility for the overseas estates of the MoD.

It was formed on 1 April 2011 after a reorganisation of the MoD's bodies in charge of infrastructure.
